The San Francisco Giants have gotten putrid production at first base.
A combined batting average below .200 and just five home runs total for the season. That's not what such a slugging position is supposed to provide.
Could Rafael Devers learn the spot? Sure, but that vacates DH, anyway.
There's another option. ESPN's David Schoenfield wants the Giants to trade for Ryan O'Hearn.
He's another lefty slugger out of the AL East, but from Baltimore.
"You could find a half-dozen teams where O'Hearn fits, but let's go with the Giants, who rank last in the majors in OPS at first base, with an average below .200 and just five home runs," Schoenfield writes. They also rank in the bottom third of the majors in OPS versus right-handed pitching, so adding O'Hearn on top of Rafael Devers would give San Francisco a second middle-of-the-order lefty bat. President of baseball operations Buster Posey has already shown his cards with the Devers deal: He's all-in, so no time to stop now."

O'Hearn is 31 years old. On the season, he's batting .295 with 11 homers, 30 RBI and an .854 OPS.
He'd be lightyears ahead of everyone the Giants have put at first so far this season.
He'd also add another strong lefty bat to a lineup with righties like Heliot Ramos and Willy Adames.
There's really no reason for the Giants to not pursue O'Hearn.
