Calvin Mitchell was once a top-100 prospect in baseball according to Baseball Prospectus.
But the San Francisco Giants don't see a reason to keep him around anymore after what has disappointingly turned into a journeyman career.
The Giants didn't even start the season with Mitchell. The White Sox had released him in April, and that's when San Francisco picked him up.
But Mitchell hasn't hit at all in in the minor leagues this year, and so now he's a free agent.
At 26 years old, the outfielder could still find another team interested in him. He was the 50th overall pick in 2017, and he put up good minor league numbers in the early going.

Mitchell made his MLB debut with Pittsburgh in 2022, batting .226 with five homers in 69 games.
The next season, he got into only two games at the MLB level and went 0-for-4. Mitchell hasn't been back in the majors since.
The Giants actually sent Mitchell to Double-A Richmond after they signed him this season. There, he batted just .169 with seven homers in 40 games.
MLB Trade Rumors suggests that Mitchell could pursue a contract overseas as an alternative route to continuing his baseball career. It's sure been a long fall since his once highly touted status.
