The San Diego Padres have gotten their much-needed outfield help, acquiring Ryan O’Hearn and Ramon Laureano in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Per Dennis Lin of The Athletic, LHP Boston Bateman is among the prospect haul headed the other way to Baltimore. Bateman was the 4th ranked prospect in the Padres’ system.
O’Hearn and Laureano will now join a Padres team that has been desperate for outfield help. O’Hearn is enjoying a career year in 2025, hitting .283 with 13 home runs and a .837 OPS. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career for his efforts.
Laureano is also in the midst of the best season of his career this season. So far, he is hitting .290 with 15 home runs and a .884 OPS.
Padres GM A.J. Preller has been extremely active at this year’s deadline. Along with acquiring O’Hearn and Laureano, the team also traded for A’s closer Mason Miller earlier on Thursday, parting ways with top prospect Leo De Vries in the process, making that two top-five prospects dealt in the same day for the Padres.
In the thick of the National League playoff race, the Padres are clearly going for it all as shown by their extremely aggressive approach at the trade deadline.
