The Philadelphia Phillies are currently in position of the third National League Wild Card spot early in the month of May. The team is 19-15 after winning 95 games last year and cruising to an NL East title.
However, that doesn't mean every area of the roster is set. In fact, the Phillies haven't gotten great results at the center field position, as Brandon Marsh has struggled.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently listed some surprise trade candidates as the July 31 deadline looms. One of them was Ceddanne Rafaela of the Boston Red Sox.
Miller listed Philadelphia as a team that could potentially show interest.
"Plenty of contenders can't be thrilled with the production they've gotten out of their center fielders thus far this season," Miller wrote.

"The Phillies, Mets and Tigers should all at least kick the tires on a possible trade for Rafaela, while the Diamondbacks, Astros and Guardians—who entered play this past Friday with a combined zero home runs from center fielders—would perhaps engage in a battle royale of a bidding war."
Rafaela is struggling at the plate, slashing .219/.278/.324 with two home runs, 15 RBI and a .602 OPS. However, he performed slightly better in 2024, hitting 15 home runs and driving in 75 runs.
If he can match that production, he could be a solid addition to a Phillies lineup that desperately needs production out of their center fielders.
Boston would have to be blown away by a potential offer for Rafaela, so that makes things a little more complicated. But it should be interesting to see what the Phillies decide to do to address center field.
