Wake Forest-Stanford weather updates: College World Series game delayed by lightning image

Stanford is just nine outs away from putting up a pivotal win against No. 1 Wake Forest in the College World Series. But Mother Nature has put the game on hold.

Saturday's contest between the Cardinal and the Demon Deacons was delayed in the top of the seventh due to lightning.

Stanford had a runner on second with two outs while leading 2-1 at the time of the delay. Braden Montgomery, the Cardinal's No. 4 hitter, was due up against Wake Forest left-handed reliever Sean Sullivan.

Both starting pitchers had already exited the contest, with Wake Forest ace Rhett Lowder getting removed in the top of the sixth and Stanford's Joey Dixon pulled after finishing the fourth inning.
