Orioles call up Jackson Holliday: Here are the most notable MLB debuts in recent memory image

Baltimore Orioles top prospect Jackson Holliday is getting the call-up to The Show and is expected to make his MLB debut in the coming days.

Holliday, who is widely regarded as MLB's top overall prospect, enjoyed a sensational Spring Training. He followed that up by dominating Triple-A ball in Norfolk, hitting .333 with two home runs, five doubles, nine RBI and a 1.077 OPS, essentially forcing the Orioles to call him up just two weeks into the 2024 MLB season.

Most notable MLB debuts in recent memory

OF Weston Wilson, Philadelphia Phillies

  • Debut: Aug. 9, 2023
  • Wilson made his debut with the Phillies at the age of 28. He went 1-for-1 with a home run in his first MLB at-bat to go along with two walks, three runs scored and a stolen base.

OF Jasson Dominguez, New York Yankees

  • Debut: Sept. 1, 2023
  • Though he only recorded one hit, the highly-touted Dominguez—nicknamed "The Martian"— clubbed a home run in his first-ever MLB at-bat.

OF Sal Frelick, Milwaukee Brewers

  • Debut: July 22, 2023
  • Not only did Frelick show off some defensive wizardry, he went 3-for-3 with two RBI—one of which tied the game and the other plating the winning run.

INF Zach Remillard, Chicago White Sox

  • Debut: June 17, 2023
  • Though Remillard didn't get the start, coming in for the injured Tim Anderson, he went a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI, including the walk-off hit in extra innings.

SP Logan Allen, Cleveland Guardians

  • Debut: April 23, 2023
  • Allen got the start against the Miami Marlins, tossing 6.0 innings pitched allowing one run while striking out eight batters and earning the win. His only blemish was allowing a solo home run.

SP Drey Jameson, Arizona Diamondbacks

  • Debut: Sept. 15, 2022
  • Jameson tossed 7.0 scoreless innings in a win over the San Diego Padres, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out five.

SS Gunnar Henderson, Baltimore Orioles

  • Debut: Aug. 31, 2022
  • Holliday's soon-to-be counterpart in the middle of the infield went 2-for-4 with a home run against the Cleveland Guardians.

OF James Outman, Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Debut: July 31, 2022
  • Against the Colorado Rockies, the 25-year-old rookie went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.

SS Jeremy Pena, Houston Astros

  • Debut: April 8, 2022
  • Pena enjoyed an incredible debut as a 24-year-old rookie, collecting three hits in five at-bats, which included a home run.

RP Kent Emanuel, Houston Astros

  • Debut: April 24, 2021
  • This debut is mostly notable because Emanuel relieved starter Jake Odorizzi after just one out due to a forearm injury. He went on to throw 8.2 innings pitched allowing five hits, two runs and no walks while striking out five against the Los Angeles Angels.
