Official scorer crushes our dreams, rules Bartolo Colon infield single an error image

Bartolo Colon is a national treasure. The portly 41-year-old Mets pitcher is arguably the most unintentionally entertaining baseball on the planet.

On Wednesday night, Colon hit a chopper off Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez. Thinking it was a guaranteed out, Colon cantered to first base. But because Colon is not of this world, he somehow beat the throw.

Sadly, it was not meant to be. The official scorer ruled it an error instead of an infield single. This is such a cruel world we live in.

To make matters worse, Colon was knocked out of the game after 4 1/3 innings. He was charged with nine runs on 11 hits.
