The New York Yankees' bullpen has not been bad, and Devin Williams and Luke Weaver have become a great duo. However, they could use one more elite arm in the bullpen.
Williams struggled early in his Yankees tenure, but he has reclaimed the closer role. He has a .096 ERA since May 31, in 10 outings. With Williams and Weaver, the Yankees feel comfortable late in games. However, Empire Sports Media's Ryan Garcia suggested they trade for Jhoan Durán of the Minnesota Twins.
Durán has an electric fastball and has been great this year. He has a 1.78 ERA in 37 games. He has been a closer for the last three years, but the Yankees would need him to be a weapon before the ninth inning. When Williams is at his best, he is arguably the best closer in baseball, so it will be tough to remove him from that role now that he has settled in.
"New York attempted to acquire Duran in the past, and given their current bullpen struggles, they could ask about him again," wrote Garcia. "With a dominant repertoire that hitters simply cannot square-up for solid contact, Duran is one of the best relievers in all of baseball, and he immediately solves their lack of fastball velocity."
Durán is under club control through 2027. He would not be a cheap addition, but the Yankees could create a three-headed monster in their bullpen with Williams, Weaver and Durán.
