The New York Yankees have decided who they want on the mound to begin Game 3 of the American League Division Series.

After taking Game 1 of the series over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night, the Yankees will hand the ball to lefty Carlos Rodon for Game 2 on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.

Getting the call for Game 3 of the series at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday night will be right-hander Clarke Schmidt.

Before the series started, the Yankees announced that the Game 3 starter would be either Schmidt or rookie Luis Gil.

With a 1-0 lead going into Monday night, it seems the Yankees want to go with the more experienced option in Schmidt.

Schmidt was in the middle of a breakout season before suffering a lat strain in his throwing arm at the end of May.

In 11 starts across 60.2 innings pitched, Schmidt had a 5-3 record with a 2.52 ERA to begin the season. After he came back from the injured list in September, he had a 3.65 ERA in five starts.

With Schmidt getting the start in Game 3, that means Gil could be used out of the bullpen for the rest of the series.
