The New York Mets are looking to beef up their bullpen for the stretch run of the final two months of the season. Sitting at the top of the National League East, with a 59-44, they have the Philadelphia Phillies sitting just 1/2 game behind in the standings.
New York acquired left-handed reliever Gregory Soto in a deal from the Baltimore Orioles. Soto comes to New York with a 0-2 record and a 3.96 earned run average. He has struck out 44 batters in 36.1 innings. His last appearance with the Orioles was on Thursday, as he struck out two in a scoreless inning.
To head to Baltimore, the Mets have sent Wellington Areacena and Cameron Foster. Aracena is an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic. He is just 20 years old.
