Mets home run record: Pete Alonso clubs 2 HRs, passes Darryl Strawberry on team's all-time list

Pete Alonso has spent his entire career with the Mets, producing at a high level to become one of the best players in franchise history. On Tuesday night, Alonso further cemented his place in Mets' history.

While facing the Braves at Citi Field, Alonso slugged two home runs to help the Mets snap their losing streak with a 13-5 victory. New York entered the game reeling, having lost 11 of their past 12 and hanging onto the final NL wild-card spot, so the win was a huge boost.

However, in the process, Alonso set a Mets record that fans have been waiting for him to break. Here's a look at how Alonso created a moment in New York.

Pete Alonso home run record

With his first home run against the Braves, Alonso became the Mets all-time home run leader, passing Darryl Strawberry with his 253rd as a Met.

Alonso tied the record in Milwaukee over the weekend, but he was able to set a new record with his first homer of the homestand. Since his rookie season in 2019, Alonso has set records with his power, including the all-time rookie home run record that season.

After the game, Alonso spoke about what it means to have hit more home runs than anyone in Mets history.

"As a kid, you don't really think it's in the realm of possibility to be a franchise home run leader," Alonso said. "It's a wild dream, to be honest, and it's really special."

As for what he will do with the ball, Alonso said it's going "right in the man cave."
