The Twins were always going to be sellers at the MLB trade deadline, but no one foresaw the fire sale that happened on July 31.

Minnesota traded nine MLB players on deadline day and 11 total over the past week. It was by far the most active team at the trade deadline as the club seeks to save money ahead of a potential sale and eventual rebuild.

The two most high-profile deals the Twins made were sending closer Jhoan Duran to the Phillies for two top prospects and trading shortstop Carlos Correa to the Astros while paying $33 million of the more than $100 million remaining on his contract.

Twins trades at MLB trade deadline

Minnesota traded 11 players and made nine total transactions at the trade deadline. Unsurprisingly, every deal was with a contending team and bolstered their depth as they make their respective postseason pushes.

Division leaders Philadelphia and Houston benefitted the most from deals with the Twins, but fellow division leaders Toronto, Detroit, and the Dodgers got some key reinforcements that will surely help in October. The second-place Cubs and surging Rangers also acquired some key pieces that will enhance their existing strengths.

For the Twins, these moves were all about saving money and/or adding controllable, inexpensive pieces for the future, including Rays starter Taj Bradley. Perhaps surprisingly, Minnesota didn't deal All-Star pitcher Joe Ryan, but virtually everyone else who had been mentioned in trade rumors leading up to the deadline got moved. Now, Minnesota will build around a core of Byron Buxton, Royce Lewis, Ryan, and Pablo Lopez as it looks to eventually start a new chapter under new ownership.

Here's a look at every trade the team made over the past week, beginning with July 31.
