The Detroit Tigers announced on Friday that starting pitcher Reese Olson will be activated off the 15-day injured list and will start Friday’s matchup with Cleveland. Justyn-Henry Malloy was optioned to Triple-A Toledo as a corresponding move.

Olson has been on the injured list since May 19th with right ring finger inflammation. He should provide a big boost to a Tigers team that currently has the American League’s best record at 54-34.

Olson re-joins a Tigers starting rotation that has been led by Tarik Skubal, giving the team another top-end option as they gear up for the second-half of the season.

The 25-year-old right-hander has broken out as a frontline starter for the Tigers this season. Prior to landing on the IL, Olson pitched to a 4-3 record with a 2.96 ERA in nine starts.

To make room for Olson, the Tigers sent down outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy to Triple-A Toledo. Malloy had been called up earlier in the week, and will now return to Triple-A. In 46 games with the Tigers this season, Malloy is batting .208 with one home run and a .620 OPS.
