The Boston Red Sox had a few players, including outfielder Wilyer Abreu, have strong seasons on their way to an 81-81 record that landed them third place in their division.

However, despite Abreu's impressive first full campaign in the majors, he was passed over as a finalist for the American League Rookie of the Year candidates which were announced on Monday.

The MLB announced that the three finalists were Baltimore Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser and New York Yankees pitcher Luis Gil and catcher Austin Wells.

Abreu has a strong case to be considered a snub for the award.

In 153 games for Baltimore this year, Cowser hit .242 with a .768 OPS, 24 home runs, 69 RBIs and nine stolen bases.

Gil made 29 starts for New York in 2024, posting a 3.50 ERA and a 1.193 WHIP while striking out 171 batters.

In 115 games for the Yankees, Wells hit .229 with a .718 OPS, 13 home runs, 55 RBIs and one stolen base.

Abreu, in 132 games for the Red Sox, hit .253 with a .781 OPS, 15 home runs, 58 RBIs and eight stolen bases while playing Gold Glove defense in one of the toughest right fields in baseball.
