The Boston Red Sox are still in the postseason hunt, but that does not mean they won't try and trade some of their players. They already traded away Rafael Devers.

Trading Devers had more to do with the tension between him and the front office. However, Boston may try to trade away Trevor Story regardless of where they are in the standings when the July 31 trade deadline rolls around. ClutchPoints' Zachary Howell listed him as a player who "must" be on the trade block.

"Trevor Story's name has already been thrown around in trade rumors," wrote Howell. "However, the Red Sox shortstop could be more motivated to move on after seeing what happened to Devers. The 32-year-old was confused with Boston's decision to send their best batter away before the deadline. If the Red Sox and Cora are truly committed to their young talent, Story could be next."

Anthony is the most popular of Boston's trio of top prospects, but Marcelo Mayer has been just as good," Howell continued. "Unfortunately for him, he sits behind Story on Cora's depth chart. Once again, too much talent, not enough space on the roster. Boston's choice went it comes to Story is clear; they should try to make the most of his start to the season and trade him and his contract away."

Story was a two-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger with the Colorado Rockies. When he signed a six-year, $140 million deal with the Red Sox in 2022, the team thought it was getting a star. Instead, Story has missed more time than he has played and struggled immensely.

The Red Sox have their succession plan ready in Mayer. When Alex Bregman returns, Mayer will need a spot to play, and moving Story would give him one. Story is hitting .230, but .283 in June. He is healthy and his trade value is as high as it has been in years. He has a $5 million buyout next season, and the Red Sox can try to trade him now.
