Folsom (California) five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons is the top uncommitted quarterback in the country.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound signal-caller is rated the nation's No. 13 overall prospect, No. 4 quarterback and No. 1 player in the state of California in the class of 2026.

Lyons, however, intends to take an 18-month LDS mission beginning in January and will, for all intents and purposes, become a 2027 prospect.

No matter how you slice it, Lyons is special — one of the top recruits in the entire country.

And now he's ready to come off the board.

On Wednesday, Lyons set a June 24 commitment date

As for naming his finalists, Lyons stopped short of declaring a list of potential landing spots.

But in recent weeks his recruitment has centered on BYU and Oregon with USC a long-time contender to keep an eye on if there's a late surprise.

Lyons recently took an official visit to Eugene to connect with Dan Lanning's Ducks, and will seemingly conclude his recruitment with a Thursday trip to Provo to check out the Cougars.

Ohio State, Ole Miss and USC have also been in the mix, but after the California superstar recently canceled his official visit to see the Trojans many have speculated openly that it had become a two-horse race.

Given USC's insane run on the recruiting trail, perhaps that will prove to be unwise. The Trojans should be considered a possible landing spot until Lyons himself indicates they are actually "out of the mix."

Still, this feels like a battle between BYU and Oregon.

On3 currently gives Oregon a 68.4 percent chance of winning the recruiting battle.

“Coach (Will) Stein, coach (Dan) Lanning, how they’re doing as a program, they’re just building and building,” Lyons told the site. “Me and Coach Stein have a great relationship, probably the best out of any other coaches. They’ve been recruiting me the hardest probably, the whole time … how they’re recruiting, a lot of people like to say it’s all Phil Knight money, but they don’t really understand how good they recruit … their culture is probably one of the best I’ve seen. How they play as a team, how they interact with each other.”

BYU makes for a scary contender.

The Cougars are set to host the final visit, have recently elevated their recruiting prowess and have family ties to the Lyons.

Ryder's dad, Tim, was a defensive back for BYU in the mid-1990s and the quarterback's siblings have also attended the school.

After finishing 11-2 last year on the gridiron and securing the commitment of basketball phenom A.J. Dybantsa in its recent recruiting class, BYU has emerged as a very serious threat in the recruiting world in the NIL era.

Could they close strong and overtake Oregon down the stretch?

There's a strong possibility and this recruitment is far from certain.

What will the winning school be getting? Essentially, a 2027 quarterback prospect who could be a program-altering talent.

Here's what 247Sports had to say about Lyons as a prospect:

"Lyons is an exceptional talent and has been one of the top quarterbacks in the region since his sophomore year. Has rare combination of arm talent and movement ability and can shred a defense with his arm and his legs. A pure thrower with a live arm and understands how to change speeds and throw with anticipation. Accurate to all three levels of the field and throws the deep ball with touch and can rip fastballs in to tight windows. Equally dangerous when a play breaks down and has to improvise off-script. Elite in his ability to make multiple defenders miss and is creative in how he can buy time and make a throw down the field or take off and run for plus yards. He's a tough kid who doesn't shy away from contact and will take a shot but hang in the pocket to deliver the football. A highly competitive player with a strong off the field work ethic and draws raves from his coaches and teammates for his leadership skill. Has one of the highest ceilings among the quarterback group in his class and assuming he continues to develop, should be playing on Sunday's for a very long time."
