Some have questioned if Millennium, the clear-cut No. 3 team in Arizona high school boys basketball last season (among AIA teams), can still contend for an Open Division title after graduating a tremendous senior class that included 4-star forward Kingston Tosi (Utah State). That's despite returning the state's premier hooper in 5-star wing Cameron Holmes.

It was an understandable concern, but it's time to think again.

The Tigers went 4-0 last weekend in arguably the second toughest bracket at Section 7 to win the Cache AI title, beating Idaho juggernaut Owyhee 68-63 in the championship.

To get there, Millennium blew out Pasadena (CA) and Inderkum (CA) and defeated Redondo Union (CA) 64-54 in the semifinals.

So, what makes Millennium so dangerous with much of its core gone? Holmes is of course a stud, and now there's another 5-star talent in the fold in 6-foot-5 sophomore guard Adan Diggs, a transfer from Williams Field ranked 10th in the Class of 2028 by ESPN. They went for 26 points and 22 points, respectively, in the finals to beat Owyhee.

Additionally, even though the Tigers probably won't be as deep as last season, it's not just those two stars against the world. They picked up another outstanding transfer in junior Damian "DJ" Spencer who led Desert Vista with 14.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last season to go with 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals. Spencer makes a third player on the team close to 6-5 who can play a variety of positions on both sides of the court, and his versatility will likely make him a perfect fit alongside Holmes and Diggs this season. Guards Gabe Coronado (Catalina Foothills) and Adrian Higuera round out Millennium's nucleus and will space the floor more than adequately.
