For Colin Rice, the offers for his services on the basketball court are likely going to start to rack up here soon. Rice, who will be a senior at Waukee Northwest High School in the fall, was recently invited to attend the NBPA Top 100 Camp.
The 6-foot-7 Rice made his mark, highlighted by a 21-point, seven-round performance during the camp. He went 9-for-13 from the field and earned high-praise from Jamie Shaw of On3 (thanks to Hawkeyes Wire for the quotes).
Shaw noted that the "positional size pops quickly when watching Colin Rice. You see the athletic fluidity and the comfort he has with the ball in his hands."
Rice currently has schools such as Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois and Colorado vying for his attention.
"He is comfortable on hte ball, getting to spots off a dribble or two and he has a smooth shooting stroke with range off the bounce or off the catch," Shaw noted. "The shooting stroke was true this week, and the upside is intriguing."
Rice averaged 12.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game at Waukee Northwest last winter playing alongside the sons of new Iowa head coach Ben McCollum. He was also a 38 percent shooter from the 3-point line.
The NBPA Top 100 Camp is an elite high school basketball camp hosted by the National Basketball Players Association. Over the course of a week, 100 of the top high school players in the country go through skill development, educational sessions and mentorship from current and former NBA players.
