Tiger Woods is a regular at the PGA Championship dating back to the 1990s, but there's something different about him this year.

The 48-year-old is returning to Louisville's Valhalla Golf Club hoping to win his fifth PGA Championship and first since he went back-to-back in 2006 and 2007. And this year's tournament is being played at the same course where Woods won the 2000 PGA Championship in historic fashion.

One difference in the golfer's look 24 years later? He's rocking a goatee this time around. He's not rocking the clean-shaven look from his first PGA Championship titles in 1999 and 2000.

Why is Woods sporting a goatee for this tournament? The Sporting News details the answer and more below.

Why does Tiger Woods have a goatee?

The answer is fairly simple: Woods was just "lazy," as he told reporters ahead of the tournament. Sorry to any fans looking for a deeper underlying meaning.

Woods discussed his facial hair choice earlier this week, noting that he cut himself trying to trim his goatee and decided to leave it alone.

"I'm definitely lazy," Woods said. "I cut myself this morning trying to trim it up, so it is what it is.

While it's not Woods' typical look, perhaps it'll bring him some success, as he's searching for his first major victory since the 2019 Masters.

Tiger Woods' 2000 PGA Championship win

While Woods' facial hair has sparked social media interest, his return to the Valhalla Golf Club is also a major talking point.

In 2000, which marked just the second time the club hosted the PGA Championship, Woods outlasted Bob May for a memorable title win.

Woods' 2000 title marked his second consecutive PGA Championship win, his third of three major victories that year and the fifth major win of his career. He became the first golfer since Ben Hogan in 1953 to win three major championships in the same calendar year.

Woods enters the 2024 tournament with 15 major titles in his illustrious career. The 2024 championship marks the fourth PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.
