Some sports are played no matter the weather outside. Golf isn't among them.

Weather is always a hurdle when planning a major golf event. There's no controlling Mother Nature nor is there an indoor golf option like some MLB and NFL stadiums.

Sometimes, it just takes luck for a golf championship to avoid any delays or interruptions. The PGA Championship may need some of that good mojo this weekend in Louisville, Kentucky.

The annual tournament, which spans from May 16-19, is expected to feature rain and thunderstorms. Here's the latest updates and news on the weather for the 2024 PGA Championship.

PGA Championship weather forecast

Friday, May 17 forecast

Play got underway without issue Thursday, but the PGA Championship was delayed almost immediately Friday. A reportedly fatal traffic accident near the course delayed fans and golfers from reaching the event.

Rain also may have played a role in the decision to push things back. Rain is expected essentially all day Friday at the PGA Championship.

Light rain and scattered showers are expected in the morning, but the event could see thunderstorms in the afternoon. The forecast says, "rainfall could be heavy at times," so there could be significant delays throughout the day.

The PGA Championship announced an initial delay until 8:48 a.m. ET, so some golfers could be able to start their rounds before any weather-related delays begin.

Scottie Scheffler, who was arrested Friday after reportedly driving on a median to get around police at the scene of the traffic incident, is slated to tee off at 10:08 a.m. ET. Scheffler was reportedly not involved in the accident. It's unclear whether Scheffler will make his scheduled tee time due to the arrest, though it's possible weather delays could push back his start time.

Another day of rain, this time with showers to start and thunderstorms developing later in the day. The rain is expected to clear late at night.

Sunday, May 19 forecast

Sunday seems to be clear of all rain, but the ground could still be wet from the past few days. A high of 87 degrees is listed during the day time, which is the highest projected temperature for the tournament.
