Saves Sleepers

Drew Pomeranz struck out the side in the ninth inning on Saturday, preserving Oakland's 3-2 lead and giving him his second save in the past 10 days. Sean Doolittle, who's struggled since coming off the DL, wasn't used at all, which suggests Pomeranz has a fairly tight hold on the closer's job for the time being.

Another day, another Tom Wilhelmsen save. Wilhemsen recorded the final four outs of Seattle's 7-6 win on Saturday, giving him his third save since Tuesday. It wasn't easy, as Wilhelmsen allowed a pair of hits and a walk, but he ultimately made it through unscathed. He's locked in as the M's closer, though Carson Smith could see a save chance on Sunday, as Wilhelmsen likely will get a day of rest.

Wade Davis threw a perfect ninth inning en route to his 13th save on Saturday. Greg Holland pitched each of the past two days and was getting the night off. Davis will likely see more save chances than usual down the stretch, as Holland has been dealing with a sore arm.

A day after Junichi Tazawa's latest poor performance, Jean Machi tossed a perfect ninth inning, nailing down the save in Boston's 3-1 victory on Saturday. Machi will likely continue getting save chances until he has a bad appearance. At that point, the Red Sox could turn back to Tazawa or go with a committee approach.

Weather Watch

There are several chances of rain around the league today, but nothing significant. There are 20- to 35-percent chances in Atlanta (Yankees-Braves), Chicago (Mariners-White Sox), Cleveland for Angels-Indians and Pittsburgh (Rockies-Pirates), so double-check the radar around game time.
