The news broke on Monday, May 26, that Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark would be out for at least the next two weeks after suffering a left quad strain. It’s no surprise to anyone that the news came as a disappointment to Fever fans, especially considering how early it is in the season.

Nevertheless, Clark’s teammate Kelsey Mitchell wants fans to know that she believes the team still has what it takes to push forward and stay focused. Mitchell, who is in her eighth season with the Fever, spoke with reporters after Monday’s practice about how she thinks Clark’s temporary absence may affect the Fever in the coming weeks.

"We've got a lot of seasoned vets on our team, so I don't think it should be a drop-off in several areas," she said.

"The mindset is to use it as fuel. Obviously, take the preparation we need. But I think the veteran leadership we have, we have championship winners on our team already. And so hopefully, the idea is to keep that focus, no matter who's playing or not," she added.

Mitchell also noted that she hopes that Clark won’t try to rush the recovery process but will instead give herself the time to heal so that she can come back and play at 100%.
