For all of its success and prominence, Texas softball has, perhaps surprisingly, never captured a Women's College World Series title.
The SEC powerhouse can blame Oklahoma for that. The Sooners downed the Longhorns in each of their first seven WCWS duels, four of which occurred in the WCWS finals.
So, when Mike White's side battled OU, a team seeking its fifth-straight national title, trouble appeared to loom.
Things proved far more fruitful for the Austin, Texas residents, however. Fueled by Kayden Henry and Teagan Kavan's heroics, the Longhorns landed a crushing blow upon their adversary's title hopes, besting the Sooners, 4-2.

Henry was the standout, collecting one home run, two stolen bases and two runs to power Texas' offense. Henry swiped home to secure the Longhorns' second run and knocked one over the fences to notch their third. Both were vital in a tightly-contested affair.
Kavan, meanwhile, painted another complete game masterpiece, her second in as many appearances. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native whiffed eight batters en route to the win. She did so on a heavy heart as well; Kavan's grandmother died early Saturday morning.
The first matchup of the third day of the Women's College World Series pits a pair of coaching titans against one another, giving the sports world a chance to watch greatness in action.
All told, the display gave viewers a window into Texas' grit. That attribute should serve it well going forward, particularly as the final glistens in the not-too-distant future.
