Who won Grey Cup MVP? Alouettes' Cody Fajardo named Most Valuable Player at 110th CFL championship image

Just earlier in 2023, Cody Fajardo wasn't sure if he would play football again. After he was cast off by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the veteran QB was debating retiring from football.

That is, until the Montreal Alouettes called, looking for a starting quarterback. Now, Fajardo is a Grey Cup champion once more, and a Grey Cup MVP.

Fajardo led the Alouettes to a last-minute upset win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 110th Grey Cup. Down three with under two minutes to go, Fajardo and the offense drove down the field, working its way deep into Winnipeg territory before Fajardo hit Tyson Philpot in the end zone to give Montreal the lead with just seconds to go in regulation.

The veteran signal caller finished the day 21-for-26 for 290 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, picking up his second CFL title and first as a starting QB. He also was honored as the Grey Cup Most Outstanding Player.

"This team, this organization believed that I could be a Grey Cup-winning quarterback, and to be standing here in front of you guys and saying that we're Grey Cup champs," Fajardo said. "This team will go down as one of the best teams in CFL history."

Here is a look at the other winners of the Grey Cup MVP.

Previous Grey Cup MVP winners

The Grey Cup MVP award was introduced in 1959, and given out to a member of the winning team. While someone on the losing team may have a better individual performance, only a member of the championship team can win the MVP honor.

From 1959 to 1973, the honor went to just one player. However, in 1974, the CFL expanded the award to Offensive Player of the Game and Defensive Player of the Game. This opened up the honor to be given to anyone on either side.

In 1991, the CFL reverted back to the original MOP, giving it out to just one player on the winning team.

Here is a look at all of the winners of the CFL's Grey Cup MVP since 1991.
