Moving multiple divisions, Naoya Inoue believes the best is yet to come at super bantamweight. The Japanese star defends his status as the undisputed champion at 122 against Luis Nery on May 6.

Since turning pro in 2012, Inoue has won gold in four divisions. He has gone from light flyweight to super bantamweight, becoming undisputed in two divisions. He is the second active male boxer to accomplish that feat, the other being Terence Crawford.

Inoue has 23 wins via knockout in 26 fights, with a total connect percentage of 35.1%, eighth-best among active fighters. Some say his power has decreased with all the weight changes despite the seven-straight wins via the power punch. It did take ten rounds to put down Marlon Tapales in his last fight, but it is not a cause for concern for Inoue.

"I am still confident that if I hit someone cleanly, I can knock anyone out, at any time. It’s just that the pieces didn’t fit together against Tapales," Inoue told The Ring. "Even the two knockdowns weren’t as crisp as I wanted, rather, it was a steady attack that caused him to fall down in disgust."

Nery has 27 wins via knockout. The former bantamweight champion has a complicated history in Japan with failed drug tests and botched weigh-ins. Once banned for life, Nery can redeem himself and potentially hold all the gold at 122.
