Jaime Munguia is ready to put on a performance of a lifetime when he faces Canelo Alvarez for the latter’s status of undisputed super middleweight champion on May 4.

Munguia may be an impressive 43-0 at just 27 years old. But make no mistake: none of his previous opponents are remotely close to Canelo's stratosphere. The former super welterweight champion sees the naysayers pointing toward a lack of tough fights and has recently ratcheted up, beating former contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko in 2023 and John Ryder via TKO to start 2024.

Neither are Canelo.

Following an unsuccessful attempt at light heavyweight gold against Dmitry Bivol, Canelo has won three straight, his last fight a one-sided affair against Jermell Charlo in September. While Canelo is an all-time great, Munguia believes his skills can hold up and he will not shy away on fight night.

“I do believe I’m pushing, and I’m giving you my word that I’m going to do my best to get him to fight with me,” Munguia said to Fight Hub via DAZN.” At this point, I don’t really know, but the possibility of a knockout will be there. Whenever you are in the ring, anything can happen.”
