Pick #1: Turner Under 5.5 Rebounds
We’ve been targeting Chet Holmgren and his rebounding line, but one guy who’s slid by the criticism is veteran big man Myles Turner. Indiana’s center has a 5.5 rebounding line set for Friday, which he has gone over in just one of his last nine games.
Part of his low-rebounding totals come from the fact that Turner is always sliding over to block shots or take charges for the Thunder. His last line of help defense leaves the rest of the team the task of cleaning the glass, which has been fairly successful.
There’s always a threat of a big rebounding outburst to down this pick, but the current body of work spells out Turner going under his line again.
Pick#3: Gilgeous-Alexander Over 6.5 Assists
Gilgeous-Alexander was hounded plenty in Game 3, and it led to a playoff-high six turnovers. Not only that, the newly minted MVP was struggling to score the rock like he had through the first two games.
Part of it was Indiana’s commitment to make it harder for him, and the other part was SGA not giving up the ball more to his teammates. He had just four assists in Game 4, and he’s gone Under his line of 6.5 dimes twice in the Finals, after going Over that figure in eight of the last 10 playoff games.
Look for Gilgeous-Alexander to facilitate more, allowing his teammates to make some open shots, while also loosening the crush of bodies in the paint. His scoring and assists should be big improvements in Game 4.
Pick #3: Mathurin Over 0.5 Three-Pointers Made
The Montreal native is coming off his best playoff performance ever in just his third NBA Finals game, finishing with 27 points and four rebounds. Mathurin shot 9-for-12 from the field, including 2-for-3 from downtown. He’s now connected from three-point range in back-to-back games.
Prior to that, he’d been in a real shooting funk since his Game 4 suspension in the Cavs series. Mathurin attempted zero three-pointers in five of his last nine appearances.
But after Game 3, Mathurin now projects to be one of Indiana’s most important players: a dynamic, athletic (and majorly confident) guard that can come off the bench and provide offense when Tyrese Haliburton and other key players are on the bench.
His three-point stroke continues to make a mark in this series. All you need here is one to cash in.
