White Sox Continue to Crush Left-Handed Pitching
This might surprise most casual MLB fans, but the White Sox have been the best hitting team in the MLB when facing left-handed pitching for about a month now. Since July 1, they lead the MLB in the following categories vs LHP: wRC+, wOBA, wRAA, ISO rate, OPS and slugging. They have been fantastic, and they have shown no signs of slowing down.
Yesterday, the White Sox faced Phillies ace Cristopher Sanchez, who had not given up multiple earned runs in a start since June 14th and the White Sox managed to get four runs off him. He had gone six straight starts allowing one or fewer earned runs before running into the White Sox last night. That was also the first time since April 6th, his second start of the entire season, where he allowed four earned runs.
Now, the White Sox face Jesus Luzardo, who cannot seem to get out of his own way recently. Since June 17th (which is taking out his two worst starts of the year when he allowed 12 and 8 earned runs in back-to-back starts), Luzardo has an ERA of 5.35 in those seven starts. So, even taking out his two worst starts of the year, his numbers still do not look good. He has allowed 10 earned runs combined in his last two starts.
Even if they do not get four runs off Luzardo, the Phillies bullpen has struggled all year and is more than capable of allowing a couple runs themselves. Check out several MLB betting bonuses on DraftKings, including a parlay profit boost.
Brewers Put Up Runs Once Again Tonight
While the White Sox might be the hottest team specifically against left-handed pitching, the Brewers might just be the hottest team in baseball at this moment in time. Facing a good Cubs team yesterday and a solid starting pitcher in Matthew Boyd, the Brewers tagged them for eight total earned runs, getting five earned runs off boyd himself. As a team, the Brewers had an absurd 16 HardHits, hitting three home runs as a team.
Since June 1st, the Brewers have the third-best batting wRC+ in the MLB and have an excellent matchup tonight. For starters, balls should fly in this stadium, with this game having the second-best home run index of the day at +36% when considering the weather and the park factors.
Not only that, but Colin Rea is pitching for the Cubs, who has really struggled recently. Over his last nine starts, he has a 4.72 ERA, 6.05 FIP and 4.86 SIERA. In that same stretch he has allowed a barrel rate of 10.8% and launch angle of 16.4 degrees, contributing to his HR/9 of 2.28 in these nine games.
Against a raking Brewers team in these types of weather conditions, those home run numbers could be a death sentence, so the Brewers should be trusted to score a bunch of runs once again tonight.
Kikuchi Mows Down Rangers
Despite missing this in both of his starts against the Rangers this year, Kikuchi is worth a sprinkle to reach 7+ strikeouts at the nice +135 price. After a slow start to the year, Kikuchi has been pitching well recently, hitting this over in five of his last eight games. That comes after missing this in 13 of his first 14 starts as well.
Over these last 10 starts, he has a solid K rate of 28.4% and K/9 of 10.71, which would put him in the top 10 of all qualified pitchers if extrapolated out. He has also been consistently going 90+ pitches and hit 100+ four times in his last 10 starts.
As far as the matchup goes, this is a Rangers team that not only strikes out a ton against LHP, but struggles hitting against lefties as well. Since 7/1, the Rangers have the sixth-worst wRC+ and the second-highest K rate against LHP. That is a tough combination overall, but great for us.
Looking into the individual matchups, the Rangers have an astounding eight of their projected nine batters that strike out over 20% against LHP, with six of them striking out 23% or higher. Kikuchi should be able to strike out a bunch of Rangers tonight.
