Adell Hits a Blast in the City of Angels
One could make the argument that Jo Adell is among the hottest batters in baseball with the way he has been raking at the plate over the last month or so.
He has hit 12 home runs over the last 30 days, which is tied for this third-most in this stretch with Juan Soto. Only Cal Raleigh is above them with 13. That is pretty good company! He has continued to stay hot over the last seven and 14 days as well, with eight barrels in the last 14 days and four in the last week. So, there has been no point in which he has started to cool off.
His scorching run at the plate continued yesterday despite not hitting a home run. He had three HardHits, and all three were 105 mph EV or higher, which is impressive.
He will be going up against Mitchell Parker as the starting pitcher for the Nationals, who has given up a home run ever 13.67 at-bats in his last five starts. Any number under every 20 at-bats is a bad sign for the pitcher, and Parker being at 13 is among the worst in baseball over this stretch. Look for Adell to stay hot today.
Soto Goes Yard for Mets
Soto, as mentioned earlier, is up there with Adell in the top three home runs hit over the last 30 days with 12 in this stretch. Soto is also in the top 10 of total barrels in the last week with five and is third in the MLB with nine barrels over the last 14 days. Those are phenomenal numbers across the board for Soto, who has come alive in June after a slow start to the year.
The Pirates starting pitcher is the young Mike Burrows, who has been hit up by lefties. On the year, he has allowed a home run every 17 at-bats, with the biggest issue being his 4-seam fastball. That is a death sentence against Soto, who has hit the 4-seamer hard his entire career and especially recently. Over the last month when facing a 4-seam FB from RHP, Soto has a 20%-barrel rate, 88.89% HardHit rate and a 33% fly-ball rate. He does get walked a lot, but when he makes contact with a fastball it gets absolutely crushed.
Soto also has the advantage of being a left-handed hitter at PNC Park, which a ballpark more favorable to left-handed hitters with the shorter field field compared to a long outfield to the left.
Ramirez Sends one Deep Today
Ramirez, despite not quite having the name value of Juan Soto, is tied with Soto with five barrels over the last week. He is one of 10 batters with five barrels in this seven day stretch, but he is the only batter who does not have multiple home runs to show for it.
Yesterday especially was a brutal day for Ramirez, as he hit two ground-rule doubles. One of them was 105.2 mph off the bat and traveled 389 feet, while the other one was 100.3 mph exit velocity and would have been a home run in 20/30 stadiums. He also had another hit with an exit velocity of 108.3, just did not have the proper launch angle.
He has been red hot recently, and the guess here is that the home runs are going to come for Ramirez. He will be facing Eduardo Rodriguez as the starting pitcher for the Diamondbacks, who has struggled ever since signing in Arizona. He has allowed a home run every 25 at-bats against RHH, which is slightly below-average. Not quite as bad as the other two starting pitchers discussed for today, but definitely nothing to be scared off of either. When considering the nice price at +650, Ramirez is a great look for a homer today.
