It was another memorable outing at the Canadian Open for 16th seed Clara Tauson as she produced a fantastic quarter-final display to beat Madison Keys.

Tauson's 6-1 6-4 victory over the American eighth seed on Tuesday evening (August 5) means she has now pulled off successive victories over top 10 seeds.

In the round prior to taking down Keys, the 22-year-old produced an impressive straight-sets victory over Wimbledon winner and no. 2 seed, Iga Swiatek.

The Danish player was able to advance to the last four of the WTA Masters 1000 event in Montreal thanks to getting off to a strong start against Keys.

After Tauson fought off two break points in the first set's opening game, she never looked back as she converted her two break point opportunities when they came to clinch the opening set in just under half an hour.

The world no. 19 carried over the momentum into the second set as she broke the reigning Australian Open champion in the opening game.

Keys had the chance to level the set in the eighth game as she had a break point, but Tauson held on and did not allow any breaks of her serve throughout to close out the win.

Tauson's reaction and who does she face next?

Tauson was very emotional post-match as she revealed that she learned of a loss in her family in the build-up to playing Keys.

She said: "Two days ago, my grandfather unfortunately passed away, so I really wanted to win for him today."

"I was told the day after I beat Swiatek, so yesterday, and I really wanted to come out here and show my best tennis for him."

Tauson will now face four-time Grand Slam winner and former world no. 1, Naomi Osaka, in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening (August 6), after the Japanese star beat Elina Svitolina (10) 6-2 6-2 on Tuesday.

Osaka, who is unseeded after taking a hiatus from tennis in recent years, looks to be playing her best tennis again and typically excels on hard courts, so Tauson could be in for a tough challenge.

Tauson will be hoping to reach just her second Masters 1000 final. She was the runner-up at the Dubai Tennis Championships earlier this year after losing to Mirra Andreeva in the final.

The other semi-final match in Montreal sees Elena Rybakina (9) take on unseeded teenager, Victoria Mboko, who took down top seed, Coco Gauff, earlier in the competition.
