Iga Swiatek became the latest of the top seeds to exit the 2025 Canadian Open on Sunday (August 3) after Clara Tauson defeated her 7-6 (7-1) 6-3.
The Polish second seed's Round of 16 loss in Montreal came despite hitting eight aces in the match, and comes just a few weeks after she won her maiden Wimbledon title.
Swiatek's successful run at SW19 saw her beat Tauson along the way, so the Danish player's latest victory would have meant a little more.
Tauson's straight sets victory ends Swiatek's nine-match winning run and sets up a quarter-final clash with the highest seed remaining in Montreal, Madison Keys (6).
The no. 16 seed was proud of herself after dismantling the Wimbledon champion, saying: "it's really great and it shows all the hard work I've been doing has been the right thing."
"I'm getting more confidence in this kind of level and feeling like I belong here a bit more. I think that really helped me in the important points."

Keys booked her spot in the last-eight after coming from a set down and saving two match points en route to knocking out Karolina Muchova.
Which other top seeds have exited the Canadian Open?
Swiatek's exit at this WTA Masters 1000 event continues a trend of many of the top-seeded players in the women's singles draw falling in the early rounds.
Top seed, Coco Gauff, exited the tournament after losing to teenager, Victoria Mboko, in straight sets on Saturday (August 2).
Also, Jessica Pegula (3), Mirra Andreeva (4), Amanda Anisimova (5), Jasmine Paolini (7) and Emma Navarro (8) were all sent home early in Montreal.
Keys, Elena Rybakina (9) and Elina Svitolina (10) remain the only top-10 seeded players left in the draw.
Tauson is remarkably the fourth-highest seed left standing, and she will fancy her chances of providing another upset when facing Keys on Tuesday (August 5), as the win over Swiatek will have provided her with bundles of confidence.
For the top seeds, such as Swiatek, who have failed to reach the latter stages in Montreal, they will have a few days of rest before turning their attention to the Cincinnati Open, which begins in less than a week's time.
