Instead of the New York Knicks signing an older veteran or someone they know won't help them during the postseason, like Ben Simmons, perhaps changing their approach and finding a young player to fill some roles would be a better plan.
There aren't many options for the Knicks to still pursue on the market, but Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report recently linked them to one. Pincus looked at the top remaining free agents for a veteran minimum contract, writing that Amir Coffey could be a potential addition for them.
"Coffey is a low-maintenance 3-and-D wing and still just 28 years old. The 6'7" veteran is coming off his best overall shooting season at 40.9 percent from three on 3.4 attempts in 24.3 minutes per game. He averaged 9.7 points for the Clippers, but didn't get any action in the postseason (in a series L.A. lost to the Denver Nuggets in seven games).
"With the addition of Bradley Beal, Chris Paul, Brook Lopez and John Collins, the Clippers appear to be going in a different direction. Any team with roster space left needing defensive and shooting on the wing should look at Coffey (perhaps the Golden State Warriors or New York Knicks)," he wrote.

Throughout Coffey's career, he's continued improving and has shown some promising signs.
If the Knicks don't give him as much leeway as the Los Angeles Clippers did, he'd be in a great spot in New York. Throughout his career, he's played in 18.4 minutes and has averaged 6.7 points on 38.4% shooting from 3-point range.
