The New York Knicks will likely add at least one more player to the roster before this offseason ends. However, it’s possible that the team could add more than just one additional player.

SNY’s Ian Begley believes there is a possibility that the Knicks opt to add another veteran to their second unit even if Landry Shamet is brought back. This would have to happen via trade, but nonetheless Begley isn’t ruling out the possibility.

“I would not rule out the idea that the Knicks wanted to bring in another veteran in addition to Shamet,” Begley said on The Putback. “The only way to do that is to make a trade, you can’t do it any other way, you have to open up a spot if you want to bring in another veteran’s minimum.”

Begley also mentioned players such as Ben Simmons — who the Knicks have reported interest in — as potential targets for this scenario.

“That’s just something I’m vaguely keeping an eye on here as we get closer to camp,” Begley said.

The Knicks have already beefed up their second unit by bringing in Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele on cheap deals in free agency, and are still looking for more. For a second unit that was last in total points, and points per game last season, that has been the team’s number one priority this offseason, and so far, they’ve gotten the job done. Now, adding that one final piece is all that’s left as the Knicks push their focus towards winning a title in 2026.
