The Milwaukee Bucks have been no strangers to big moves, and they might have been close to pulling off another this offseason.
This summer has been all about keeping Giannis Antetokounmpo happy in Milwaukee. While trade rumors continue to fly about the two-time MVP’s future, Antetokounmpo appears set to enter next season as a Buck.
Perhaps the reason Antetokounmpo didn’t ask out this summer was the team’s clear commitment to building a contender, as evidenced by the move for Myles Turner. Yet, the team might have fallen just short on creating a team capable of competing with the best in the East.
One of the Bucks’ possible additions never quite came to fruition, likely because Milwaukee simply didn’t have a good enough offer to make it happen. As reported recently by ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Miami Heat were interested in dealing Andrew Wiggins this offseason, and Milwaukee as one of the teams that approached Miami about the former All-Star.
Miami was reportedly looking for an instant impact player and a first-round pick before 2028. The Bucks were probably unwilling to part with the little draft capital they have at their disposal, and Kyle Kuzma would have been the centerpiece of any deal, considering the financial aspect.
So, the Bucks might have made the right decision to not go all-in on acquiring Wiggins, but with Antetokounmpo running the show, it’s always difficult to tell who might become an instant star. Wiggins has already shown his ability to contribute to a title contender, helping the Warriors win it all in 2022, but his shaky play over the past couple of years might have made the risk too much for the Bucks to pursue further.
