The Milwaukee Bucks are set to have an active offseason, and that could include losing a key piece.
Since losing in the first round for the third straight season, all of the offseason talk in Milwaukee has been centered around the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo. While there is still some uncertainty about his long-term future, there has been no indication that he will be elsewhere to begin next season.
While the Bucks will almost certainly enter opening night of 2025-26 with Antetokounmpo on the roster, another key player from last season’s team could have a new home. Gary Trent Jr. emerged as one of the Bucks’ top role players in 2025, and his time with the team could be over almost as soon as it’s started.
Trent has been in Milwaukee for only one season, but he appears to be a clear candidate to find a new home in free agency this summer. While he might still only be able to find a minimum deal, his performance in a more confined role in Milwaukee might have helped his value on the open market.
One of his potential suitors could be the San Antonio Spurs, as pointed out by Brew Hoop’s Jackson Gross. If the Spurs can manage to land Kevin Durant, then Trent might be the perfect fit as a starting guard.

After shooting 43.1% from beyond the arc last season, Trent could give the Spurs some much-needed spacing and land San Antonio a potential high-impact role player for relatively cheap. While that’s great news for the Spurs, the Bucks could be kicking themselves if they are unable to keep Trent around.
