The Denver Nuggets have had an interesting offseason, and they could soon lose out on their key remaining free agent.
Over the past several weeks, the Nuggets have been focused on improving the supporting cast around their core. With Nikola Jokic looking to add another championship to his resume, the Nuggets have struggled to find the perfect pieces around him in recent summers.
However, that might not be a problem any longer, as the team has made some strides to address depth concerns. With additions such as Jonas Valanciunas and Bruce Brown, Denver has been active this offseason.
Still, the Nuggets haven’t had a perfect offseason, as Russell Westbrook, who saved the Nuggets multiple times during last season’s playoff run, remains unsigned. With rumors of Westbrook’s potential interest in heading to Sacramento, the Nuggets still seem likely to lose the former MVP, but Sacramento is a bit of a surprise destination.
As Empire Sports Media’s Alexander Wilson wrote recently, Westbrook’s rumored move to the Kings would be the nail in the coffin for the New York Knicks’ hopes of landing him. After the Knicks were one of the first teams thrown into the Westbrook sweepstakes in late June, New York has remained on the lookout for a perfect veteran to fill out the rotation.
Although Westbrook’s name hasn’t always been at the top of New York’s list, it has always been in the discussion. So, with the nine-time All-Star’s potential departure to the Kings, all of the smoke coming out of New York could have been all for not, which would force Denver to face its former guard more next season.
