It seems there may be a possibility that "Dame Time" could be coming to Dallas.
Tuesday morning, the Milwaukee Bucks shocked the basketball world by waiving star point guard Damian Lillard to make room for Myles Turner's $109 million contract, who will be joining the team from the reigning Eastern Conference champions, the Indiana Pacers.
And now the questions and rumors begin, where will the nine-time All-Star sign?
If you think about it, the Dallas Mavericks might not be the worst landing spot for Lillard.
Yes, they already have one star guard that they are giving big bucks to and that is also tending to a lower body injury in Kyrie Irving, so upon first thought, this would be a horrible idea for the team.
However, there are some clues from the past that have led to Lillard being open to calling American Airlines Center his home.
For instance, in the 2021 season, when Lillard's then-team, the Portland Trail Blazers were in search of a new head coach, Dame took to Yahoo! Sports directly to voice his support in the team hiring Jason Kidd, who was in Los Angeles as an assistant coach with the Lakers at the time.
This is not how reality would turn out though, as Portland instead hired another former NBA champion in Chauncey Billups, as Kidd returned to the Dallas Mavericks as their head coach, having played with them from 1994-1996, and again from 2008-2012, winning the 2011 NBA championship with the team.
Lillard was also supportive of Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison when he was hired back in 2021.
Even as the Mavericks continue to live with the aftershocks of the monumental Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade that Harrison instigated, Kyrie Irving has still shown that he has a little bit of his prime self left, and Cooper Flagg joining the team is a surefire plus.
So even though there is a chance that Lillard could come off the bench once he is healed from his Achilles injury, the Mavericks are still looking like a postseason contender, so it's not far-fetched to see Dallas as an option for the former Rookie of the Year.
