The Chicago Bulls haven’t made many moves this offseason, but it might be time for them to take a big swing.
Over the past several seasons, the Bulls have been stuck in the middle. Fighting to make the play-in almost every season, the Bulls have simply been in a position that no NBA team wants to be in.
Beginning with some moves last offseason, Chicago began to move away from its core that has kept it in mediocrity for the past half-decade. With DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine now elsewhere, Nikola Vucevic is the lone member of that big three still in Chicago.
For years, the Bulls have looked into a potential Vucevic trade, but no suitors have jumped at the opportunity. That could change this summer, with Bleacher Nation’s Elias Schuster proposing a deal that lands Vucevic on a team desperate for some frontcourt help.
The proposal features Vucevic, Ayo Dosunmu and a second-round pick heading to the Boston Celtics, with Anfernee Simons and Sam Hauser landing in Chicago. Although it isn’t a perfect situation, this deal has some clear benefits for both sides.
Dosunmu can take over as the backup point guard in Boston while Vucevic mans the middle. Of course, the real excitement comes from Chicago’s point of view.
Simons could form an electric backcourt scoring duo with Coby White and help the Bulls straddle the line between a youth movement and postseason contention. Add in Josh Giddey’s potential return, and the Bulls’ backcourt could be one of the most intriguing group of players in the entire league.
