The Boston Celtics have undergone a lot of change in the offseason so far, and even more change is coming. But, in an unexpected twist amid the Celtics $6.1 billion sale to Bill Chisholm, the team got some major news on one of the leaders of the franchise.

According to Shams Charania on Twitter/X, Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck "will no longer stay on as governor as part of the Boston Celtics' $6.1 billion sale to Bill Chisholm, sources tell me and @ramonashelburne."

As Charania outlined, the original plan had been for Grousbeck to remain with the Celtics through the 2028 season as the team's governor. But now, Chisholm will take over as governor, with the title transfer set to be finalized soon, according to Charania.

It's another major piece of news for the Celtics this offseason, which has seen a lot of turnover. Earlier this summer, the news was that the purchase of the Celtics was yet to be finalized, and Grousbeck was to remain with the franchise.

But a month later, things have taken a significant turn, as Grousbeck is out as the Celtics governor, highlighting the changing of the tides in Boston for the Celtics. Chisholm has significantly more control now, with the move reminiscent of the Dallas Mavericks.

Mark Cuban had been in a similar spot to Grousbeck and eventually lost his influence over the team, culminating in the controversial and stunning Luka Doncic trade.

While such a deal likely isn't in the cards for the Celtics, the comparisons between the two are worth monitoring. The times are changing in Boston, and this latest piece of news from Charania is further indication that the Celtics are approaching a new era of basketball.
