Bayer Leverkusen are already planning for life after Florian Wirtz this summer.

Major changes are ongoing at the BayArena following Xabi Alonso's decision to return to Real Madrid in May.

Alongside Alonso's departure, defensive duo Jonathan Tah and Jeremie Frimpong have already moved on, joining Bayern Munich and Liverpool respectively.

Frimpong's switch to Anfield will not be the only deal between Arne Slot and new Leverkusen boss Erik ten Hag this summer, with the Premier League champions closing in on a record transfer agreement for Wirtz.

After weeks of negotiations, Liverpool have finally reached a breakthrough with the Bundesliga giants, as Slot aims to land Wirtz when the international transfer window reopens on June 16.

With Leverkusen resigned to losing their attacking talisman, Ten Hag is now switching focus over a replacement, as part of an ambitious squad rebuild for the former Manchester United boss.

Filling the Wirtz void will not be easy, but Ten Hag could be given around £100m [$135m] to bolster his squad in the weeks ahead, and the Daily Mail have flagged Bournemouth forward Justin Kluivert as a developing option.

Justin Kluivert's Bournemouth contract, transfer value, stats

Kluivert stepped up a gear in his second season in the English top-flight with 12 goals and six assists in 2024/25 as No.1 in both metrics for Andoni Iraola's side.

As Bournemouth missed out on a first-ever European qualification spot, the club are expecting interest in their key players with Dean Huijsen already at Real Madrid and Antoine Semenyo on Ruben Amorim's radar at Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old is under contract at the Vitality Stadium until 2028, so Bournemouth are under no pressure to sell, with a transfer value set at around £30m [$40m].

Ten Hag and Kluivert worked together briefly during the former's stint in charge at Ajax and he is hoping to utilise the lure of UEFA Champions League football as a pull factor.

Talks are at an early stage and Bournemouth's stance will be impacted by what happens with Semenyo as Iraola seeks to avoid a mass player exit.
