The future of two IPL players could change dramatically. Reports suggest veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin may be on his way out of Chennai Super Kings while Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson is also linked with a move away from the team.
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes these developments could align perfectly: paving the way for Ashwin to take over the captaincy at RR, provided CSK agree to his release.

Aakash Chopra backs R Ashwin as a captaincy fit for RR
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that if Samson does leave, Ashwin could be the ideal replacement as captain.
"From RR, Sanju could be leaving. From CSK, Ashwin Anna could be leaving. This could work out beautifully - he goes to Rajasthan and becomes captain because they also need one," said Chopra.
He said that other options like Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal might be too inexperienced for the role.
Ashwin returned to CSK in 2025 after nearly a decade but Cricbuzz reports indicate his second spell could end after just one season.
The 38-year-old has reportedly told the franchise he wishes to part ways with formal discussions involving senior figures like MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad taking place in Chennai this week.

He is also expected to step down from his role as Director of Operations at the CSK Academy to avoid a potential conflict of interest if he joins another team.
Sanju Samson's uncertain future at Rajasthan Royals
Sanju Samson's long association with the Rajasthan Royals is under question. Multiple reports claim he has asked for a release ahead of the IPL 2026 auction with KKR and CSK both linked as possible destinations.
Samson's relationship with RR coach Rahul Dravid has reportedly been strained and the team's poor 2025 campaign only added to the pressure.
