The Gujarat Titans got knocked out of the Indian Premier League 2025 from the Eliminator at the hands of the Mumbai Indians on May 30 in Mullanpur.

MI started the game strong with the openers, Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow adding 81(50) and 47(22) respectively to put them in the driving seat as they posted a 228 run total at the end of 20 overs.

The main point of criticism towards the Titans was their poor day on the field with dropped catches as they ended up dropping both openers on multiple occasions during the first powerplay — eventually costing them the match.

Following the 20-run loss, Gill spoke to Harsha Bhogle at the post-match presentation, where he was seemingly unhappy with the way the likes of Gerald Coetzee, Sai Sudharsan and Kusal Mendis dropped catches during MI's batting.

"Definitely not easy when we drop 3 sitters. It wasn't easy for the bowlers to control, and it doesn't help when you drop 3 catches," said Gill.

How did Shubman Gill perform in the Eliminator vs MI?

After having a good season, in general, the newly named India Test captain failed to make any impact in the Eliminator with the bat. He only managed 1(2) during the 229 run chase against MI. He was plumb LBW off a Trent Boult delivery, ending his night early in Mullanpur.

Up next, he will be heading to England to join the India camp for the five-match Test series, which will be his first assignment after being named the Test skipper.
