Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shashank Singh had to face a lot of heat from his skipper Shreyas Iyer after he was run out against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Qualifier 2 match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Shashank went off for just two runs on the board when an accurate throw from Hardik Pandya rattled the stumps at the non-striker end.

The 31-year-old batsman from Chhattisgarh was seen casually running towards the danger end when the Mumbai Indians skipper wasted no time to pull out a quick throw to dismiss the batsman. Punjab were 169/4 at that juncture, and Shashank's wicket seemed to have brought the five-time champions back into the game.
However, Shreyas Iyer's heroic innings of 87 not out from 41 deliveries ensured Punjab got over the line without further setbacks.
Meanwhile, Shashank decided to open up on the run-out incident that left his captain and the fans frustrated.

Shashank Singh finally decided to break the silence on his run-out incident with Shreyas Iyer in the Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians. The batter feels that his skipper should have 'slapped' him for taking it too casually in an important phase of the match.

According to Devendra Pandey from Express Sports, Shashank said, "I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn’t speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you but later he took me out for dinner."

Shashank further revealed that even his father didn't talk to him properly till the finals. The batter admitted that it was like he was walking on a beach, and he rightly deserved the scolding from his skipper post-match. However, Iyer later took him to dinner, which shows the immense camaraderie between the two players.
Shashank Singh went on to play a gritty knock of 61*(30) against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the finals, but his team fell short of just 6 runs as Punjab lost their second IPL final.
