What happens if MI wins against the GT?
In case of the hosts winning over the Titans in the fixture on May 6, they will improve their net-run rate further and go to the top of the table with an extra match played.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Punjab Kings will drop down to the 2nd and 3rd spots, respectively, with a match in hand each. MI will topple RCB on the table only on the virtue of NRR.
This win would solidify MI's claim for—not only the playoff but for the top-2 positions as things get tight at the top, with no team having a clear-cut advantage over the other.
However, the biggest positive in the win would be the improvement in the net run rate, which would give them an edge, in case they end level on points with any team.

What happens if GT wins against MI?
A win for the Gujarat Titans will almost seal their position in the playoff positions with 16 points to their name.
The Shubman Gill-led side would go back to the top of the table with a win here on virtue of the NRR, with an equal number of matches played as RCB.
The current top 3 of RCB, PBKS and MI will go a position below their current status on the table to 2nd, 3rd and 4th spot respectively.

In this case, MI will also have to win at least 1/2 of their remaining matches to make it to the playoffs to keep their fortunes in their own hands and not depend on the results of other sides.
What happens if MI vs GT ends in a tie or a No Result?
If the match between the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Titans ends in a tie with both teams scoring an equal number of runs, then the match would go into a super over as a tiebreaker.
If the super over is once again tied, the string of super overs would continue until we get a winner of the match.
On the other hand, in case of no result—due to rain/weather or any other circumstances, the two sides will share a point each and both teams will move up by a spot, and PBKS will move to number 4 with a game less than MI.

Both teams will need to play at least 5 overs to determine the result of the match. In any case of a team playing their full innings and the chasing team playing even 4.5 overs, the match will be deemed as no result.
