Since 2024, Sharma has managed to score just 214 runs in 12 innings while batting first in the Indian Premier League. With a poor average of 17.74, the numbers themselves speak of Sharma's inability to strike the ball well in the first innings.

Contrary to his first innings record, Sharma fares well when his team bats second in a match. The 38-year-old amasses a total of 532 runs in 15 innings, at a much-improved average of 40.92 since 2024 in the Indian Premier League.
