Chelsea are moving swiftly in the ongoing summer transfer window in an attempt to strengthen their squad for the 2025/26 Premier League season.
On May 3, the Blues confirmed that Jadon Sancho would return to Manchester United after opting against extending his loan spell at Stamford Bridge.
Now, according to a report from CaughtOffside, Chelsea have made an opening bid of £55m [$75m] for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.
While Enzo Maresca has also been linked with Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and Athletic Bilbao wingere Nico Williams, Gittens looks to be his primary target.
It means Gittens could now have the opportunity to return to one of the clubs he played for as a youngster. Reading-born Gittens was once part of Chelsea’s academy, alongside a stint at Manchester City, before moving to Dortmund in 2020.
At City, Gittens played alongside Liam Delap at U18 level, and they duo could now be reunited with Maresca closing in on a deal for the Ipswich Town striker.

How Gittens could fit into Enzo Maresca's Chelsea
With Sancho now departing Stamford Bridge, it means Gittens could replace the man who scored Chelsea’s third goal in their UEFA Conference League final win over Real Betis at the end of May.
Much like Sancho, Gittens is a product of the City academy, who later sealed a move to Dortmund in an attempt to get more game time at first-team level.

The 20-year-old is known for his electric pace and directness on the ball and he could be a more effective direct alternative to the inconsistent Sancho in Maresca's attack.
He ended the 2024/25 season with a career-high 12 goals at Dortmund with only Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson bettering that tally at Stamford Bridge.
