India put up a historic fight in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in the final two days, as they are close to securing a draw from the jaws of defeat.

England controlled the momentum of the match for the first three days as they took a massive 311-run lead after posting 669 runs on board in the first innings.

The visitors then lost two quick wickets without scoring a single run within the first session on Day 4. However, thereafter, captain Shubman Gill and KL Rahul put up an 188-run partnership as India did not lose a single wicket in the rest of the day.

Rahul was the first to get dismissed at the start of Day 5 and soon after Gill departed before scoring a hundred. With two quick wickets early in the day, the English bowlers started to believe that they could clinch the game, however, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar's 100-run partnership in the second session helped India take a lead in the match.

Both the all-rounders scored a half-century each. While on his way to yet another Test 50, Jadeja scripted history as the veteran star became only the third player to score more than 1000 runs and take 30 wickets in an away country.
