KL Rahul left disappointed by Rishabh Pant’s run-out in IND vs ENG Test: ‘He just wanted to rotate strike’ image

After three days of thrilling cricketing action, the 3rd India vs England Test at the iconic Lord's Cricket Stadium is evenly poised. India ended their first innings at 387 runs, equalling England's first innings total.

India began Day 3, 242 runs behind England's first innings score; however, the 141-run stand between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant steadied the ship for India and cut down the deficit to 140.

Both batters were looking in complete control, but that's when trouble struck. In the last over before Lunch on Day 3, Rishabh Pant lost his wicket, attempting to take a needless single just before the interval. Pant was run out on 74, which allowed the hosts a window to come back into the game.

Speaking after the day’s play, senior batter KL Rahul expressed his disappointment over the incident, describing the nature and time of Pant's dismissal as 'not ideal.'

Pant attempted a quick single to rotate strike and support Rahul’s push for a hundred

Describing the unfortunate run out, Rahul said, "Rishabh's run out was disappointing. There was a conversation a couple of overs before that," Rahul said. "I told him that I will get my hundred if possible before lunch. And with Bashir bowling that last over before lunch, I thought there's a good chance for me to get it, but, yeah, unfortunately, I hit straight to the fielder.

"It was a ball that I could have hit for a boundary. Then he just wanted to rotate strike and see if he could put me back on strike. But, yeah, it shouldn't have happened: a run-out at that stage really changed the momentum. It was disappointing for both of us. Obviously, nobody wants to throw their wicket like that," Rahul added.

Pant's wicket turned the game slightly in England's favour. India was in a commanding position until lunch, with both batters looking very solid; however, the run out opened the gates for England as they rushed through India's lower order, with just Jadeja and Sundar showing some resilience down the order.

A thrilling Day 4 on the cards, with the game hanging in complete balance

With the scores level in the first innings, fans are in for a lip-smacking final two days of cricket at Lord's. England will look to bat throughout Day 4 and set up a huge target, while India will want to restrict the hosts to a low total.
