The M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has a capacity of 32,000, was deemed not suitable for hosting large events at the venue in the aftermath of the fatal stampede during the IPL victory celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 4.

Ever since the unfortunate day, the demand for a new stadium on the city's outskirts, with enough parking space, has been steadily growing among both city authorities and residents.

The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) later proposed constructing a state-of-the-art sports complex with a seating capacity of a whopping 80,000.

According to the initial proposal, the stadium is going to be built on the southeastern outskirts of Bengaluru, a plan that has now received approval from the Chief Minister.

The new sports complex approved by CM Siddaramaiah is to be built in Bengaluru, located in Surya City in Bommasandra.

It will boast facilities for eight indoor and eight outdoor sports, including cricket.

The other major facilities will include gyms, swimming pools, guest houses, hostels, three-star and five-star hotels and a convention hall capable of holding international seminars.

The estimated cost for this stadium is Rs. 1650 crore without any State Government support.

Additionally, two more stadiums have been proposed around the city, and the Bangalore Development Authority will also call for tenders for a stadium like Kanteerava Stadium in the northern part of the city.

The city development authority aims to build a 9,000-acre sports city that is fully equipped to be capable of hosting the Olympic Games.
