The Los Angeles Chargers made a minor roster move on Tuesday, waiving one undrafted offensive lineman and replacing him with another.
The team moved on from offensive tackle Tyler McClellan, who was in his second year with the team. Undrafted out of Campbell last season, the 6-foot-8 McClellan suffered a season-ending injury during the preseason. He won't get another preseason with the team.
To replace his spot on the roster, the Chargers brought in Elijah Ellis, who went undrafted this year. Ellis began his college career at Baylor before transferring to Marshall for his final season.
The Chargers apparently decided that McClellan didn't have any chance to make this year's team after spending most of last season on injured reserve. However, Ellis will face long odds to make the 53-man roster as well.
The offensive line is arguably the biggest strength on the Chargers' roster and outside of the projected starting five (Joe Alt, Zion Johnson, Bradley Bozeman, Mekhi Becton and Rashawn Slater), there is quality depth as well with Trey Pipkins, Jamaree Salyer, and Andre James.
Ellis will battle with the likes of Karsen Barnhart, Branson Taylor, Corey Stewart, Josh Kaltenberger, Nash Jones and Savion Washington. His best bet will likely be to make the team's practice squad.
